FOSTER TALLIES DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN 77-74 LOSS TO CENTRAL STATE

WILBERFORCE, OH- Elesha Foster registered her first double-double of the season in a 77-74 setback to Central State University Saturday afternoon.

In ASU's SIAC opener, Foster finished with 10 rebounds and a game high 29 points as the Lady Golden Rams slip to 3-3 on the year. Central State moves to 4-2 overall behind a 23 point, 7 assist performance from Fallon Edwards.

The game had 8 ties and 15 lead changes and went to the wire with free throws deciding the final outcome.

CSU's Destinee Russell connected on a three pointer with 2:57 left in the second quarter to give the Marauders a 33-22 advantage, their largest lead of the game. Ciera Norman countered from beyond the three-point arc and ASU closed the half on a 7-2 run to trail by six, 35-29 at the intermission.

The lead changed hands four times in the third quarter where the Lady Golden Rams went on to outscore Central State 20-12. In the final quarter the Marauders exploded for 30 points including 5-7 shooting from downtown. Although they did not score from the field in the final 3:34, the Lady Golden Rams kept in close with timely shooting from the free throw line. With 1:57 remaining, two free throws from Achanti Layfield put ASU ahead 73-72 however two possessions later Central State reclaimed the lead on a layup by Chavon Banks with 1:13 to go.

CSU hit 3 of 6 from the line in the final 19 seconds to seal the victory. In the final quarter Central State's bench outscored the ASU reserves 14-1. Brooke Spaulding led the bench scoring for CSU with 18 points in just 13 minutes of play.

For Albany State, Layfield and Kayla Green chipped in with 11 points apiece.

Albany State will return to the hardwood on Monday night as they face Kentucky State in Frankfurt, KY. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
