Albany State Picks Up Two Wins at PBC/SIAC Challenge

AMERICUS, GA- Albany State University used a fourth quarter run to edge Columbus State 71-68 Saturday afternoon at the Storm Dome on the campus of Georgia Southwestern University.

With the win the Lady Golden Rams pull their record to an even 2-2 and go undefeated at this weekend's Peach Belt Conference/SIAC Challenge. Albany State placed three in double figures against the Cougars with Alexandria James topping all scorers with 17 points.

Elesha Foster chipped in with 15 points and Ashley Johnson went 4 for 5 from three point land in route to 12 points.

Albany State got off to a fast start in the first quarter, shooting 50% from the floor including 4 of 8 from downtown. They led 22-9 heading into the second quarter but was only 4-11 from the field while the Cougars put up a 26 point quarter to take a 35-31 lead at the intermission.

CSU held the advantage to start the final quarter and on a layup by Tatum Jarvis with 8:57 to go, the Cougars grasped their largest lead of the game (57-46). ASU then mustered a 15-0 scoring spurt capped by two free throws by Achanti Layfield.

The Cougars moved back in front by a point, 65-64 when Chrisalyn Boston sank one of two from the line with 3:04 to go. On the Lady Rams next possession Ashley Johnson drained a go ahead three pointer that put ASU in front for good. With 30 seconds left an offensive rebound and put-back by Elesha Foster gave ASU a three point lead and although Columbus State countered with a basket on their next offensive trip, Alexandria James sealed the win with two free throws with a second remaining.
