Third Quarter Scoring Drought Leads to Setback for Lady Golden Rams

VALDOSTA, GA- West Florida's Halee Nieman scored a game high 22 points as the Argonauts defeated Albany State University 80-67 Friday evening in game one of the Valdosta State Invitational.

West Florida placed four players in double figures in route the victory in what was the season opener for both teams.

The Argonauts shot 42% from three point range (6-14) and outrebounded ASU 50-35. West Florida also shot a lopsided 29 free throws to just 7 in the game for Albany State.
The Lady Golden Rams held a 10-0 advantage in fast break points and also had 10 steals to WF's 5 in the contest. ASU opened the game on 7-0 run which was their largest lead of the afternoon.

Behind a solid nine first half points by Tyra Thompson, Albany State trailed only 40-34 at the intermission. Beginning at the 7:09 mark of the third, West Florida reeled off a 15-2 run to give themselves a comfortable lead with 2:46 left in the quarter. During that stretch the Lady Golden Rams suffered through nearly a five minute scoring drought.

Alexandria James scored a team high 15 points while Tyesha Davis chipped in with 11 points.
