Reagan Melvin Scores First Ever Goal at an ASU Home Game
ALBANY, GA- The Albany State University soccer team got off to a fast start, but ultimately fell to Georgia Gwinnett College 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at West Campus soccer field.
ASU made a bit of history in Wednesday's loss just over 10 minutes into the contest. They Lady Golden Rams controlled the tempo early on and at the 10:03 mark,
Reagan Melvin scored the first ever goal at an ASU home game on an assist from
Brittanie Evans. They also had a another notable scoring opportunity at the 13:39 that would have given ASU a 2-0 advantage but
Sydney Bishop's shot clanked off the crossbar.
The score also represented the first lead the Lady Golden Rams held this season.
The Grizzlies then took the lead on two goals that came less than 90 seconds apart and seized a 2-1 lead 27:18 into the game. After holding the 2-1 lead at the break, Georgia Gwinnett opened their lead up with four second half goals. Nicole Rodriguez and Amanda Yarger both finished the afternoon with both a goal and an assist. With the win GGC improves to 13-3-1 on the year.
Abby Whiteside put up a 7 save effort for Albany State in the setback.
ASU will close out the 2017 campaign on Saturday against Auburn University Montgomery In Montgomery, AL. Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
