Golden Rams fall to Spring Hill in final seconds

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State men's basketball team led for most of the game on Saturday afternoon, but saw its victory hopes dashed in the final 2.4 seconds of the game. ASU fell victim to a last second shot and lost to Spring Hill 66-65.
 
With the loss, the Golden Rams have lost two straight games and now own overall and SIAC records of 7-8 and 3-3. Spring Hill improves to 3-11, 2-1.
 
In the first half, Albany State and Spring Hill managed to play close to each other throughout. Leading 32-31 at the 2:34 mark, ASU used a 7-2 run capped by Michael Green's three-pointer at the buzzer to take a 39-33 edge at halftime.
 
The Golden Rams managed to push their lead to double digits in the second half. Albany State held its biggest advantage, 51-37, with 14 minutes left in regulation. However, ASU went cold from the field, and Spring Hill was able to take advantage and trimmed it deficit back to single digits.
 
Albany State continued to lead 65-64 with six seconds left when it committed a costly turnover, throwing the ball away from underneath the Badgers' basket. Brandon Fisher got off a shot with 2.4 seconds left, and it bounced around the rim before falling to give the visitors a 66-65 edge.
 
ASU was able to get off a final shot, but it fell short.
 
Michael Green led Albany State with 17 points and three steals, and Devontay Ward recorded 13 points and five rebounds. The Golden Rams shot 21-of-57 (36.8%) from the field, 5-of-18 (27.8%) from three-point range and 18-of-25 (72%) from the free throw line.
 
Spring Hill was led by Fischer's 16 points and 11 rebounds. Walter Massey also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Badgers shot 22-of-54 (40.7%) from the field, 1-of-13 (7.7%) from three-point range and 21-of33 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will have another home contest on Monday, Jan. 9 when it hosts Clark Atlanta University. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
