Lady Rams Softball sweeps series with Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team continued their winning ways in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. ASU completed a series sweep of Clark Atlanta with a 9-0 shutout. The win gives the Lady Rams an overall record of 13-25 and an SIAC mark of 10-4. Albany State is currently second in the SIAC East Division.
 
The Lady Panthers, who are holding down the fourth place spot in the East, fall to 7-23, 4-12.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Albany State scored their first runs of the game in the top of the second inning. Jadae Taylor hit a single that allowed Ambrionna Atkism to score, while Kyera Whitaker advanced to home plate on a throw to second base for a 2-0 lead.
 
In the third inning, Malea Maye belted a single to score Tiffany Massey for a 3-0 edge. Toni Coleman followed Maye with a single, which sent her home for a 4-0 advantage.
 
The Lady Rams solidified their lead in the fourth inning. First, Candice Blair's single scored Kyera Whitaker to give ASU a 5-0 lead. Then, Male Maye ended Albany State's scoring with a grand slam homerun.  As a result, the game ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.
 
Maye finished the game with two hits and five RBIs. The Lady Rams collected 10 hits as a team. Tiffany Massey picked up the mound win, holding the Clark Atlanta to only one hit.
 
Albany State will return to action on Thursday, April 7 when they travel to Valdosta, Ga. to face the Valdosta State Lady Blazers. Game times are set for 6 and 8 p.m.
