Lady Rams split road games with Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Albany State and Georgia Southwestern softball teams engaged in a couple of thrillers on Monday afternoon. After the Lady Rams used a homer in the sixth inning to win Game 1 by an 8-7, GSW took the nightcap with a two-run homerun to take the second contest 3-1.
 
With the split decision, ASU is now 14-28 overall. The Lady Hurricanes are now 24-28.

The Lady Rams took an early lead in the first inning. Toni Coleman hit a double to score Malea Maye, and Ambrionna Atkism added a single to send Tiffany Massey home to give the team a 2-0 edge. Coleman later scored on a wild pitch, and ASU led 3-0. Georgia Southwestern scored three runs of its own in the bottom of the stanza to tie the score at three.
 
After the Lady Hurricanes claimed a 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning, Albany State rallied in the top of the third. Brishanti Weaver's single brought Coleman home to tie the score at four all. Atkism advanced to home plate courtesy of a walk, and the Lady Rams regained the lead at 5-4.
 
Maye gave the visitors a seemingly comfortable lead with a single. Weaver and Kyera Whitaker each scored off the hit to, and Albany State held a 7-4 advantage. However, GSW scored a run in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth to tie the game at seven.
 
In the top of the sixth inning, Coleman became the game's heroine. The junior first baseman belted a solo homerun to give her team an 8-7 advantage it would not relinquish.
 
Maye and Coleman led Albany State with two hits and two RBIs. Atkism added two hits and recorded the mound win. The team collected 11 total hits and committed two errors.

The two teams engaged in a scoreless battle until the bottom of the fourth inning. Georgia Southwestern scored a run to take the lead.
 
The Lady Rams tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Atkism hit a single to score Coleman and create more theatrics for the afternoon.  After failing to score in the top of the final inning, ASU fell victim to the aforementioned two-run homerun by Allee Denney.
 
ASU had four hits for the game and no errors. Massey was the losing pitcher.
 
Albany State will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. on Wednesday, April 13 to face Georgia College in a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
