Golden Ram Baseball slips past CAU to win series

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team overcame a slow day at the plate to snatch victory from defeat. ASU defeated Clark Atlanta 2-1 to win the weekend series 2-1. With the victory, the Golden Rams improve to 11-29 overall and 9-3 in the SIAC. They are currently in first place in the SIAC East Division.

Clark Atlanta falls to 7-28, 3-11.

Albany State had difficulty scoring for most of the game. Clark Atlanta took a 1-0 after the first inning and was able to hold the visitors off the scoreboard for six innings.

The Golden Rams ended their drought in the top of the seventh inning. After belting a triple to right field, Austin Sheltra scored off a CAU fielding error to tie the game at one.

In the ninth and final inning, Theodore Smith hit a double to score Fleck for a 2-1 advantage. The ASU defense was solid in the bottom of the stanza to hold the host school at bay.

Fleck and Smith each recorded two hits for the Golden Rams. The team had seven total hits and committed one error. John Paul Barnard was the winning pitcher.

Albany State will host Claflin University April 16-17 in another SIAC three-game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday's single game will start at 1 p.m.
