Lady Rams fall to Columbus State in tournament challenge

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- The Albany State women's basketball team was unable to secure its first win of the season in its trip to Fort Valley, Ga. ASU was defeated by Columbus State 80-56 in the first day of the 2016 SIAC-Peach Belt Challenge.
                    
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 0-3 overall. CSU is now 1-0.
 
Albany State found itself behind early and had difficulty recovering from its slow start. ASU's cold shooting produced a 20-9 deficit at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Rams managed to score 17 points in the second stanza, but they still trailed 38-26 at halftime.
 
In the third period, Columbus State outscored ASU 28-11 to take 66-37 advantage. Albany State won the battle in the final period, outscoring the Lady Cougars 19-14.
 
Raven Wynn came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points. Elesha Foster recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams shot 16-of-64 (25%) from the field, 6-of-16 (37.5%) from three-point range and 18-of-28 (64.3%) from the free throw line.
 
Columbus State was led by Alexis Carter, who finished the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Britteny Tatum tallied 20 points and eight rebounds, and Tatiana Wayne added 10 points.
 
The Lady Cougars shot 30-of-79 (38%) from the field, 5-of-21 (23.8%) from three-point range and 15-of-27 (55.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 when it faces Georgia Southwestern State on the final day of the SIAC-Peach Belt Challenge. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
