Lady Rams fall to Kentucky State in SIAC tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Albany State women's volleyball team will have a rough road to the SIAC championship game. ASU, the fourth seed from the east division, lost its opening round match to the #1W Kentucky State Lady Thorobreds 3-0 (16-25, 19-25 and 21-25) in the 2016 SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament.
 
With the loss, the Lady Rams (14-15 overall) fall into the loser's bracket where they will meet LeMoyne-Owen College today at 4 p.m. (central time). The Lady Magicians lost to Clark Atlanta University 3-0 in their first round match. KSU and CAU will meet in the second round tonight at 7 p.m.
 
Brittianni Phillips led Albany State with 10 kills, and Chelona Holmes recorded seven kills and 11 digs. Setter Jakishma Soto had 29 assists, and libero Kiara Thompson added 11 digs.
 
Kentucky State was led by Payton Richardson's 10 kills. Tahje Ochs and Brooke Moore tallied seven digs each. Setter Anjelique Kyle recorded 28 digs, and Micah Rogers added 11 digs.
 
In other tournament action, #1E Claflin University defeated #4W Miles College to advance. The Lady Panthers will face #3E Benedict College in the next round after the Lady Tigers beat #2W Tuskegee University 3-1. Claflin and Benedict will also meet tonight at 7 p.m.  All matches are begin played in the central time zone.
