BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Maria Sanchez recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead the Albany State women's volleyball team to 3-0 (25-22, 25-23 and 29-27) win over LeMoyne-Owen in the loser's bracket of the 2016 SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. The event is being held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The Lady Rams, who are now 15-15 overall, advances in the loser's bracket to face #3E Benedict College. The Lady Tigers lost to #1E Claflin University 3-0 in the winner's bracket. ASU and Benedict will vie at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Brittianni Phillips had 13 kills, and Chelona Holmes added nine kills and 13 digs. Setter Jahkishma Soto tallied 41 assists, and Kiara Thompson and Dominique Austin recorded 19 and 13 digs, respectively.

LeMoyne-Owen was led by Danisha Watson's 10 kills. Setter Kamiaha Yancy had 24 kills, and Jakaya Brawley led the team with 16 digs.

In other tournament action, #1W Kentucky State University defeated #2E Clark Atlanta University 3-0 and advances to face Claflin tomorrow at 1 p.m. #2W Tuskegee University lost to #3E Benedict in its earlier match but eliminated #4 Miles College 3-0 in the loser's bracket. The Tigerettes will face CAU tomorrow at 10 a.m.
