Lady Rams snap losing streak with win over Talladega

ALBANY, Ga.- Justice Howard recorded a double-double with 16 kills and a career-high 27 digs to lead the Albany State women's volleyball team to a pulsating 3-2 victory over Talladega College. With the win, ASU ends a four-game losing streak.
 
Albany State reaches the .500 mark and now stands with an 11-11 overall record. Talladega falls to 11-12.
 
After losing the first game 25-22, the Lady Rams rallied to win the second set 25-22. The Lady Tornadoes emerged victorious in Game 3 by the score of 25-16, but ASU made a run in the fourth game to win 25-23 and tie the match at 2-2.
 
After making a comeback and taking an 8-7 lead in the fifth set, Albany State began to pull away and eventually concluded the match with a 15-11 win.
 
Howard was 16-of-38 for .316 hitting percentage, while Brittianni Phillips was 12-of-20 for .550. Chelona Holmes and Maria Sanchez each added eight kills. Setter Jahkishma Soto also had a double-double with 19 assists and 19 digs, and Ciara Chapman totaled 19 assists. Libero Kiara Thompson recorded 26 digs.
 
Talladega was led by Carla Novaes, who tallied a game-high 19 kills and eight digs. Lobotaon Silva added 12 kills and 12 digs, and Ashley Burchfield added 10 kills. Setter Bethany Holland had 42 assists, and Gabrielle Bailey led the team defensively with 25 digs.
 
Albany State will return to action on Thurs., Oct. 20 when it travels to Talladega, Ala. to face Talladega and Concordia College in a doubleheader. Match time begins at 4 p.m. (central time).
