Second half surge lifts Lady Rams past CAU

ALBANY, Ga.- Artisha Holston scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 72-63 victory over the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers. With the win, ASU improves to 7-9 overall and 7-1 in the SIAC. It's also the team's fourth consecutive victory.

Albany State found trouble generating points in the first half. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Rams trailed 15-11. ASU only scored another 11 points in the second period and fell into a 30-22 deficit at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Albany State recorded its most productive quarter of the season. A layup by Ieshia Young at the 4:38 mark gave the Lady Rams their first lead, 37-36, since the early minutes of the game. Mykala Jones put Clark Atlanta back in front with a pair of free throws, but Keidra Green nailed her first three-pointer of the game with 3:57 left in the stanza to give ASU a 40-38 edge.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers by Zuri Frost helped the Lady Rams build a 48-43 advantage at the 1:17 mark. Another trey by Green and an added free throw provided the Lady Rams with a 53-44 lead heading into the final period. ASU torched the Lady Panthers for 31 points in the third quarter.
 
In the final stanza, Albany State used its inside game to finish off Clark Atlanta. Key baskets by Holston and Sierra Foster helped the Lady Rams maintain their lead and send the team to its fifth win in six games.
 
Green finished the game with 14 points, all of which came in the second half, and seven rebounds, and Frost added 13 points, five assists and eight steals. Holston led the team with 11 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams shot 25-of-64 (39.1%) from the field, 4-of-7 (57.1%) from three-point range and 18-of-26 (69.2%) from the free throw line.
 
Jones led Clark Atlanta with a game-high 27 points. Siera Bubb recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Nekia Sockwell added 10 points.
 
Albany State returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 when it travels to Orangeburg, S.C. to face the Claflin University Lady Panthers. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
