Land presented with first career win after Golden Rams defeat Stillman

ALBANY, Ga.- Junior running back Jarvis Small rushed for a season-high 133 yards and a touchdown to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 21-6 win over the Stillman College Tigers. With the victory, ASU wins its first game of the season and gives interim head coach Dan Land his first career victory. The Golden Rams are now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in SIAC conference play.
 
The Tigers fall to 1-2, 0-1.
 
After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, Albany State found the end zone at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter. Quarterback
Caleb Edmonds found Yancey Burns for a 7-yard touchdown to cap a 15-play, 77-yard drive that used 8:19. Stefan Whitehead's successful PAT gave ASU a 7-0 lead, but those were the only points the Golden Rams could muster in the half.
 
In the third stanza, Small scored his only touchdown with a one-yard run to help the team build a 14-0 advantage. The scoring drive used eight plays and 69 yards in 3:43. Early in the fourth quarter, junior
Dalviness Greene scored his first career touchdown when he finished a 14-play, 67-yard drive (using 6:59).  ASU led 21-0 with 11 minutes left to play in regulation.
 
Stillman avoided a shutout when wide receiver Devon Mackey caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Alex Frederick at the 7:29 mark of the final period.
 
Edmonds finished 10-of-19 for 90 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 51 yards. Burns caught three of Edmonds passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. The "Gold Rush" Offense rushed for 238 yards and had a total of 320 yards as a team.
 
 
Defensively, the Golden Rams, who were playing without defensive backs Cedric Ashe and Oumar Kourouma, received a game-high nine tackles (eight solos) from
Jamal Abd Al-Qadir. Tavarius Washington added 6.5 tackles and Zane Fields had 4.5 tackles and a sack. Quincy Fortson and Emmauel Brown each recorded an interception for ASU. 
 
The "Dirty Blue" Defense held the Tigers to 217 total yards of offense and acquired three sacks.
 
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 when it travels to Cleveland, Mississippi to face Delta State University.  Game time is slated for 2 p.m. (central time).
