Golden Rams complete sweep of Claflin

Orangeburg, S.C.- Terrance Worthy and Jonatan Galan each recorded two hits and two RBIs to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 9-7 win over Claflin University. ASU completed a sweep of the  weekend series 3-0, and improves to 16-28 overall and 12-5 overall.  The team is currently second in the SIAC East Division behind Benedict College.

The Panthers, who were the division's top team entering the series, fall to 15-27, 11-7.  They are now in fourth place.

Albany State found itself trailing early. The home team scored big in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 4-0 lead. ASU answered in the top of the second with two runs of its own. Reise McDaniel was credited with getting the Golden Rams on the scoreboard. His single scored teammates Uwem Udofia and Hector Carrasquillo to help cut the Golden Rams deficit to 4-2.

In the top of the third inning, the Golden Rams took the lead for good.
After Worthy and Carrasquillo hit singles, Galan used a double to score Worthy and cut Claflin's edge to 4-3. Carrasquillo scored on a passed ball, and Galan went home off a Uwem Udofia single to put Albany State ahead 5-4.

The Golden Rams continued their rally in the fourth inning. Emmanuel Santos nailed a double to send Ryan Latner home, and Worthy followed with a sacrifice that scored Santos for a 7-4 advantage. Another Santos run courtesy of Galan's double pushed Albany State to an 8-4 edge.

After Claflin scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, ASU added a run in the top of the eighth when Worthy belted a double to score Latner. The Golden Rams led 9-5 at that point. The Panthers added two more runs before the end of the game, but ASU held off their late charge.

Santos had two hits, and McDaniel finished with two RBIs. Sahir Fersobe (4-5) picked up the mound win.

The Golden Rams recorded 11 hits and committed only one error.
