Lady Rams sweep three-game series with Paine

Albany, Georgia- Chelsea Hicks and Kayla Alexander each recorded two hits to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to an 8-0 victory over the Paine College Lady Lions. With the win, ASU sweeps the three-game weekend series and improves to 15-23 overall and 13-2 in the SIAC. The Lady Rams are currently the top team in the SIAC East Division.
 
Paine drops to 6-19, 0-15.
 
Albany State opened its scoring in the first inning. Toni Coleman's sacrifice scored Tiffany Massey for a 1-0 lead. Hicks later scored on a passed ball, and the Lady Rams held a 2-0 lead after the inning. ASU increased its lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Malea Maye came home off a wild pitch.
 
In the third inning, Alexander belted a double that resulted in a Coleman run. Alexander then went home on a passed ball, and Albany State held a 5-0 edge. Two more runs in the fifth and another one in the sixth inning helped the Lady Rams end the game with the eight run-five inning rule.
 
Hicks (3-4) was also the winning pitcher. The Lady Rams collected nine hits and only committed one error.
 
Albany State returns to action on Tuesday, April 14 when it travels to Valdosta, Georgia to face Valdosta State University. The doubleheader is scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
