Golden Rams defeated by Benedict

Albany, GA- Chris Wheeler scored a team-high 13 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams were defeated by the Benedict College Tigers 85-65. With the loss, ASU falls to 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the SIAC. Benedict improves to 12-8, 10-4.
 
In the first half, the two teams were involved in a close contest for the first 13 minutes. Leading 29-25, Benedict went on an 11-1 run to take a 40-26 lead with 2:55 left in the half. Lexus Hill made a three-pointer, and Lance Dixon hit a free throw to help ASU cut its deficit to 43-30 at halftime.
 
The Golden Rams cut the lead down to seven, 50-43, with 13:43 left in regulation. That was as close as the team could get, as the Tigers pulled away down the stretch.
 
Demetri Wheeler netted 11 points, and Earl Farnum added 10 more for Albany State.
 
The Golden Rams shot 24-of-61 (39.3%) from the field, 10-of-30 (33.3%) from three-point range, and seven-of-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line.
 
The Golden Rams return to action on Monday, February 9 when they host the Paine College Lions. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
