Albany, GA- The Albany State Golden Rams opened their 2015 season with a pair of losses to NAIA Brewton Parker College Barons. ASU fell in the first game 5-3 before being routed in Game 2 18-1.
Game 1: Brewton Parker 5, Albany State 3
Brewton Parker jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, but ASU promptly answered. Jeremy Arrington hit a three-run homer to tie the game at three heading into the fourth inning.
However, BPC scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good.
Arrington led the Golden Rams with three RBIs. Albany State collected five hits and committed one error. Pitcher John Paul Bernard took the mound loss.
Game 2: Brewton 18, Albany State 1
While the Barons exploded for multiple runs, Albany State still had trouble finding offense. The Golden Rams' only run came when Emmanuel Santos hit a single to score Terrance Worthy.
Ryan Latner and Ryan Hickox each collected two hits for the Golden Rams. The team totaled seven hits and five errors. Cullen Coulter took the mound loss.
Albany State returns to action on February 7-8 when they travel to Pensacola, Florida to participate in a cluster at the University of West Florida. The Golden Rams will face tournament host UWF on Friday at 3 p.m. before playing Rollins College and Flagler University on Saturday.
