Albany, GA- Larry Bullock scored a team-high 20 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams were bested by the Morehouse Maroon Tigers at the buzzer 75-73. With the loss, ASU finishes the regular season at 9-17 overall and 5-14 in the SIAC. Morehouse improves to 15-10, 13-5.
Albany State and Morehouse played a close contest for most of the first half. The Golden Rams began to pull away late in the half thanks to its half-court defense. At the 4:45 mark, ASU pushed its lead to 12, 32-20, on a basket by Demetri Wheeler. The team led 43-36 at halftime.
In the second half, the Golden Rams continued to hold its edge until Morehouse took its first lead of the game at 68-67 with 4:31 left in regulation. Bullock and Wheeler both made baskets to help ASU reclaim the lead, but Morehouse still led 73-71 with less than a minute to play.
After a missed free throw by Morehouse, Bullock was fouled with 6.5 seconds remaining. He made both free throws to tie the score at 73. The Maroon Tigers missed its next shot attempt, but Robert Askew tipped in the miss at the buzzer to send the Golden Rams to defeat.
The Golden Rams shot 25-of-53 (47.2%) from the field, 9-of-21 (42.9%) from three-point range, and 14-of-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line.
Albany State will return to action when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the 2015 SIAC Basketball Championship Tournament. The tournament will be held at Fairfield Arena from March 3-March 8. Seedings and pairings have not been determined.
