Lady Rams pound archrival Fort Valley State

Fort Valley, GA- Artisha Holston recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 72-51 victory over their archrival, the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats. With the win, ASU has won nine consecutive games (13 of the last 14) and improves to 15-9 overall and 14-3 in the SIAC. FVSU falls to 9-18, 7-9.
 
After trailing Fort Valley State 9-8 after the first seven minutes of the game, Jillian Anderson's layup gave Albany State the lead for good at 10-9. From that moment, the Lady Rams continued on a 14-0 run to take a 23-9 lead with 9:16 left in the first half.
 
With ASU leading 27-14, the Lady Wildcats generated an 8-0 run of their own to cut the Lady Rams' advantage to 27-21. Sierra Foster scored a basket, and Ieshia Young made four more to reestablish a double digit lead at 33-23. FVSU made a jumper with nine seconds left, and Albany State took a 33-25 edge into halftime.
 
The second half belonged solely to the Lady Rams. An opening 13-2 spurt pushed Albany State's lead to 46-27 at the 14:35 mark. The team held its biggest lead of the game, 70-43, with 2:33 remaining in the contest.
 
Kyasha Wilson added 12 points to a balanced Lady Ram scoring attack. Young and Keidra Green netted eight points apiece. Point guard Mecca Frost recorded seven points, nine assists, and five rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams shot 30-of-65 (46.2%) from the field, 2-of-7 (28.6%) from three-point range, and 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will close out the regular season on Thursday, February 26 when it hosts the Tuskegee Tigerettes in a non-SIAC contest. The Lady Rams won the initial meeting 61-60 on January 10. The program will also observe "Senior Night" before the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
