Atlanta, GA- Artisha Holston recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 66-60 victory over the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers. With the win, ASU has won eight consecutive games and improves to 14-9 overall and 13-3 in the SIAC. CAU falls to 8-15, 4-12.
The two teams played a nip and tuck contest in opening minutes. With the two teams tied at 13 at the 13:05 mark of the first half, Clark Atlanta went on an 8-0 run to take a 21-13 lead. The Lady Rams trailed 27-15 with 5:21 left in the stanza.
Still trailing 29-19 at the 4:01 mark, Albany State finished the half on 10-2 run to cut its deficit to 31-29 at intermission.
In the second half, the Lady Rams continued to trail until Mecca Frost made a jumper to give her team a 40-39 lead with 14:45 left in the game. ASU led 47-41 until a 16-5 run by the Lady Panthers produced a 57-52 advantage for CAU with 7:21 left in regulation.
However, ASU would have the final run. Behind 58-56 with 4:33 left, Holton made two free throws to tie the game. A minute later, she made another free throw to give the Lady Rams the lead for good at 59-58. For the last three minutes of the game, Albany State finished with a 7-2 run to ruin Senior Night for the Lady Panthers.
Frost finished with 12 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Rams shot 24-of-56 (42.9%) from the field, 2-of-12 from three-point range, and 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, February 21 when they travel to Fort Valley, Georgia to face archrival Fort Valley State. The Lady Rams defeated the Lady Wildcats on January 31 74-64. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
