Lady Rams declaw Claflin Lady Panthers

Orangeburg, SC- Forward Artisha Holston grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with eight points to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 64-43 victory over the Claflin Lady Panthers. With the win, ASU improves to 13-9 overall and 12-3 in the SIAC. Claflin drops to 12-11, 5-9.
 
Albany State began to pull away from its host after the 14-minute mark of the first half. Holding a slim 9-8 advantage, the Lady Rams used a 13-4 run to take their first double figure lead (22-12) with 10:36 left in the stanza. Claflin did cut the lead back to seven, but Kayla Green's layup gave the team a 37-26 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, Mecca Frost opened with a three-point to push the lead to 40-26. ASU lead continued to grow as the game progressed. The Lady Rams held their biggest lead of the game, 56-24, with 8:21 remaining in regulation.
 
Jillian Anderson led the Lady Rams in scoring with 12 points.  Ieshia Young recorded nine points and six rebounds, and Keidra and Kayla Green added eight points each. Point guard Mecca Frost flirted with another triple double with eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
 
ASU shot 28-of-64 (43.8%) from the field, 5-of-13 (38.5%) from three-point range and 3-of-5 (60%) from the free throw line. The team outrebounded the Lady Panthers 53-38 and held them to 20% shooting from the field.
 
Albany State returns to action on Monday, February 16 when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers. The Lady Rams won the initial meeting in January 68-66. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
