Golden Rams Basketball falls to LeMoyne-Owen in conference opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Senior forward Earl Farnum scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams were defeated by the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians 102-82 in the team conference opener. With the loss, ASU loses its fourth straight game and falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.

Albany State and LeMoyne-Owen actually played on even terms for most of the first half. At the 10:54 mark, the two teams were tied at 21 after Albany State's Khaliq Hughes connected on a three-pointer.
 
However, in the second part of the stanza, LOC started to pull away. The Magicians' late run put the Golden Rams in a 54-36 deficit at halftime.
 
In the second half, Albany State could not get back into contention. ASU trailed by as many as 31, 94-65, with 5:02 left in the contest.
 
Brandon Hudson, 14, Lance Dixon, 13, and Michael Green, 11, joined Farnum with double digit scoring performances for Albany State. The Golden Rams shot 28-of-50 (56%) from the field, 7-of-18 (38.9%) from three-point range and 19-of-27 (70.4%) from the free throw line.
 
Larry MaGaughey and Justin Street each netted 22 points for LeMoyne-Owen. Demba Konate scored 17 points and Johnnie McGhee added another 15.
 
Albany State returns to actions on Saturday, Dec. 5 when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face the Stillman College Tigers in another SIAC matchup. Game time is set for 3 p.m. (central time).
