Golden Rams lose sixth straight after OT loss to Carver

ALBANY, Ga- Sophomore center Devontay Ward scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in his first game as Golden Ram, but the team could not snapped its losing streak. Albany State dropped its sixth straight game after an 80-78 overtime loss to Carver Bible College. With the loss, ASU is now 1-6 overall.
 
After battling in a close game in the early going, Albany State built a large lead in the latter part of the first half. Ward's basketball with 6:25 left in the stanza provided ASU with a 32-16 advantage. However, the Golden Rams went on a scoring drought, and Carver was able to trim the lead to 36-32 by halftime.
 
In the second half, Brannon Hopkins gave Carver a 39-38 lead with 18:15 left to play. Jordan Floyd put ASU back in front on the next possession, and the Golden Rams led for most of the half.
 
With Albany State leading 68-66, Hopkins hit a three-pointer to give Carver a 69-68 edge with 32 seconds left in regulation. Ward was fouled with 14 seconds left and made one of two free throws to send the game into overtime.
 
In the extra session, Hopkins gave Carver a 72-69 lead with 3:35 to play. Malik Dungee's trey tied the game at 72 on the Golden Rams next possession. Carver built a four-point lead, 79-75, with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
 
A three-pointer by Earl Farnum cut the team deficit to one with six seconds left. Carver was able to hit a free throw to push the lead to 80-78 with one second left. The Golden Rams were able to get a shot off to tie the game, but Khaliq Hughes' attempt fell short.
  
Farnum finished the night with 12 points and six rebounds. Dungee added 10 points.
 
The Golden Rams shot 27-of-67 (40.3%) from the field, 6-of-23 (26.1%) from three-point range and 18-of-29 (62.1%) from the free throw line. The team committed 26 turnovers that led to 26 Carver points.
 
Hopkins led Carver with 15 points and Saveyon Edwards recorded 24 points and nine rebounds.
 
Albany State returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15 when it hosts Livingstone College at ASU HPER Gymnasium. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
