Golden Rams Basketball drops road game to Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga.- Forward Earl Farnum scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams could not secure their second win in as many games. ASU was defeated by in-state rival Georgia Southwestern by the score of 83-75. With the win, Albany State falls to 1-1 overall, while GSW improves to 2-1.
 
After playing a close contest for the first 13 minutes of the first half, Albany State trailed by nine points on two separate occasions. The Golden Rams used a layup by Keldreion Miller to close the gap to 38-33 by halftime.
 
At the start of the second half, ASU used a quick 6-0 run to take a 39-38 lead at the 17:46 mark. GSW's Jure Gunjina hit a three-pointer, and the Hurricanes regained the advantage at 41-39. On the Golden Rams' next possession, Khaliq Hughes made a jump shot to tie the game at 41.
 
With the game tied at 49 with 13:40 left to play in regulation, Georgia Southwestern went on a 21-6 run to take a 70-55 lead with 6:06 remaining. The Golden Rams did make a run to get back into contention, but the team could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
 
Dominique Pollard added 15 points, and Hughes added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
 
The Golden Rams shot 29-of-69 (42%) from the field, 3-of-16 (18.8%) from three-point range and 14-for-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
 
Chandler Thomas led the Hurricanes with a game-high 28 points and eight rebounds. Jure Gunjina had 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
Albany State returns to action Nov. 28-29 when it hosts the SIAC-Peach Belt Challenge at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. The Golden Rams will face Georgia College on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. after Benedict and Columbus State play at 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, Benedict and Georgia College vie at 5:30 p.m., and ASU takes on Columbus State at 7:30 p.m.
