Lady Rams Volleyball upsets top-seeded Claflin to advance to SIAC Championship series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Kristen Randolph recorded a career-high 20 kills and 10 digs to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a pulsating 3-2 (27-29, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20 and 15-11) win over Claflin University in the semifinals of the 2015 SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. With the victory, ASU (19-14) advances to the title game series against Kentucky State at 3 p.m. (central time) today at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Claflin, the top seed from the SIAC East Division, finishes the season with a 20-15 record and places third in the tournament. The Lady Panthers defeated Albany State twice during the regular season.
 
Freshman Keonna Hobbs had a career-high 14 kills, and Brittianni Phillips added eight. Setter Tiffany Roesler recorded 55 assists. Kaliah Carter was the team's top defensive player with 24 digs. Kiara Thompson added 13 more digs.
 
Claflin was led by Bria Bronston's game-high 22 kills. Brianna Garvin, 12, and Jamie Dobson, 10, also reached double figures in kills. Setter Sonia Rosales had 48 assists, and Alycia Perez-Johnson led the team with 14 digs.
