Lady Rams Volleyball tops Stillman in SIAC first round match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Justice Howard recorded a team-high 10 kills to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22 and 25-12) win over Stillman College in the first round of the 2015 SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. The tournament is being hosted by the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
With the win, ASU, the No. 2 seed from the SIAC East Division, advances to second round where they will meet the winner of the Kentucky State-Benedict College game on Thursday. The Lady Rams improve their overall record to 16-13.
 
Stillman, the West Division's No. 3 seed, will play the loser of the same contest. The Lady Tigers are now 19-17 on the year.
 
After defeating Stillman twice during the regular season by 3-2 scores, Albany State didn't leave anything to question during this match. Howard keyed a rapid start for the Lady Rams, who refused to let the Lady Tigers into real contention. A commanding 25-12 victory in the third set concluded the contest which was dominated at the net by the Lady Rams.
 
Brittianni Phillips added eight kills, and Kristen Randolph had seven kills and seven digs. Setter Tiffany Roesler recorded 29 assists, and Kaliah Carter led the team defensively with 11 digs. Howard also had three block assists.
 
Stillman was led by Shelia Dailey's game high 13 kills and 20 assists from setter Kendra Ramos.
 
In other action, #3E Clark Atlanta defeated #2W Tuskegee 3-2 in the first game of the day. Claflin, the East Division's No.1 seed, defeated #4W Miles College 3-0.
 
Albany State will face the Kentucky State-Benedict winner on Thursday, November 19th at 12 p.m. (central time).
