Golden Rams annihilate Morehouse on homecoming

ALBANY, Ga.- Running back Jarvis Small rushed 21 times for 173 yard to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 38-0 victory over the Morehouse Maroon Tigers. With the win, ASU wins its second straight game and improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Morehouse drops to 3-4, 1-1.

On Morehouse's first drive of the first quarter, Marquez Hodo ended the Maroon Tigers' scoring hopes with an interception that he returned to the visitors' territory. Three plays later, ASU quarterback Caleb Edmonds put his team on the scoreboard first with a 1-yard run. Stefan Whitehead's PAT was good and the Golden Rams held an early 7-0 lead.

The Maroon Tigers started another drive at the 7:56 mark, but it ended after one play. That's when Albany State safety Nick Scott intercepted another pass thrown by Morehouse's Kivon Taylor. On their offensive possession, the Golden Rams used only one play to take a 14-0 lead. Small ended the drive with a 10-yard score.

The game would remain scoreless until Hodo put his mark on the game again. With 12 seconds remaining, he intercepted an end zone pass thrown by MHC's Jordan Tarver and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown. The Golden Rams went into halftime with a commanding 21-0 advantage.

In the third quarter, kicker Zachary Gayden-Holley made a 29-yard field goal with 4:29 left to extend the Albany State lead to 24-0. The drive used 11 plays, 67 yards and 4:43.

The ASU rout continued at the top of the fourth period. Small dashed for a 49-yard touchdown to give his team a 31-0 edge and end a 6-play, 86-yard drive that used 2:23. Dalviness Green ended the massacre for the visitors with a 10-yard touchdown with 8:04 left in the game.
ASU quarterback Caleb Edmonds was 9-of-21 for 169 yards. Wide receiver Thomas Smith caught four of those passes for 92 yards. Quadrey Simmons added 58 yards on three receptions.

Defensively, Zavondric Shingleton led the team with six tackles, and Tavarius Washington added another 5.5. Shingleton also recorded the only sack for the Golden Rams. Scott and Hodo each had two interceptions.

Albany State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Atlanta to face the Clark Atlanta Panthers at Panther Stadium. Kickoff for the SIAC showdown is scheduled for 2 p.m.
