Albany, GA- Keidra Green scored a game-high 17 points, including three three-pointers, but the Albany State Lady Rams dropped their SIAC conference opener to the Kentucky State Lady Thorobreds, 61-52. With the loss, ASU falls to 1-7, 0-1 on the season. KSU improves to 5-2, 1-0.
At the start of the game, Albany State jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage. The Lady Rams led 19-10 at the 9:17 mark before Kentucky State went on a 10-3 run to cut its deficit to 22-20. The Lady Thorebreds took the lead for good with 3:15 remaining in the half at 26-24. ASU trailed 32-27 at intermission.
In the second half, Artisha Holston hit a jumper to make the score 40-38 with 14:31 left in the game. However, KSU used a 16-3 run to build a 15-point advantage, 56-41, with 5:14 left in the contest. The Lady Rams could never make a serious run to get back into contention.
Holston finished with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Lady Rams shot 18 of 50 (36%) from the field, three of eight (37.5%) from three-point range, and 13 of 17 from the free throw line. The team forced Kentucky State into 17 turnovers, but it committed 24 of its own.
Albany State returns to action on Monday, January 5th when it hosts the Lane College Lady Dragons in another SIAC league game. The contest will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. at the ASU HPER Gymnasium.
