Lady Rams claim first SIAC win with victory over Lane

Albany, GA- Jillian Anderson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 67-59 victory over the Lane College Lady Dragons. With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC. Lane falls to 1-7, 0-2.
 
In the first half, Lane held the advantage for most of the stanza. Albany State kept the contest close and eventually took the lead for good. A steal by Keidra Green and a pass to her sister Kayla for layup provided the Lady Rams with a 21-20 lead at the 1:59 mark. ASU led 26-22 at intermission.
 
Leading 28-24 at the 18:32 mark of the second half, ASU went on a 6-0 run capped by Anderson's jump shot to take a 34-24 advantage. The Lady Rams continued to pull away from their guests, taking a 57-38 lead, its largest of the game, with 5:59 left in the game.
 
The Lady Dragons were able to close the gap, but they could never make a serious run to get back into contention.
 
Holston also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Green added 12 points and seven rebounds and Keidra Green netted 10 points. Mecca Frost recorded eight assists.
 
The Lady Rams shot 26 of 70 (37.1%) from the field, one of 13 (7.7%) from three-point range, and 14 of 21 (66.7%) from the free throw line. ASU outrebounded the Lady Dragons 43-32 and forced them into 26 turnovers.
 
Albany State returns to action on Thursday, January 8th when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Stillman College Lady Tigers in an SIAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. central time.
