Golden Rams fall to Lane College

Albany, GA- Larry Bullock scored a team-high 18 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams were defeated by the Lane College Dragons, 80-76. With the loss, ASU falls to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC. Lane improves to 3-5, 1-1.
 
Albany State got off to a fast start in the first half. At the 14:42 mark, the Golden Rams already held a 20-10 advantage. With 9:38 left to play in the stanza, ASU held its biggest lead of the game at 31-16. However, the Dragons made a run of their own and trimmed the lead to 39-35 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Lane scored the first four points to tie the game at 39, and actually took a 45-44 lead at the 18:16 mark. Bullock's three-pointer one minute later helped ASU regain the lead at 47-45.
 
Albany State was able to hold the advantage for most of the half, but turnovers and costly missed free throws down the stretch helped Lane stay in contention. With the score tied at 74 with 1:20 left in regulation, the Dragons stole the ball for a dunk to take 76-74 lead. After a missed shot by the Golden Rams, Lane increased its lead with a free throw.
 
The Golden Rams had a chance to tie the game, but Davetom Odom's three-pointer missed the mark, and Lane hit enough free throws to put the game away.
 
Odom finished with 11 points, and Demetri Wheeler added 10 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 24 of 56 (42.9%) from the field, six of 21 from (28.6%), and 22 of 33 (66.7%) from the free throw line. The team also committed 24 turnovers.
 
Albany State returns to action on Thursday, January 8th when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Stillman College Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. central time.
