Augusta, GA- Artisha Holston scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to 76-51 victory over the Paine College Lady Lions. With the win, ASU improves to 7-9 overall and 6-3 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 5-11, 3-5.
Albany State used its tenacious defense to break open a close game. Tied at 24 with 3:33 left in the first half, the Lady Rams ended the stanza on a 9-0 run to take a 33-24 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, ASU scored the first basket to take its first double digit lead at 35-24. The Lady Rams continued to use their full court pressure to force the Lady Lions into numerous turnovers that led to easy baskets.
Ieshia Young scored 11 points, and Mecca Frost and Kayla Green each added 10 points apiece.
The Lady Rams shot 31 of 66 (47%) from the field, three of eight (37.5%) from three-point range, and 11 of 21 (52.4%) from the free throw line. The team forced Paine into 20 turnovers and held them to 29.4% shooting from the field, including one of nine from three-point range.
Albany State returns to action on Monday, January 26 when they host the Claflin University Lady Panthers at ASU HPER Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
