Lady Rams hold off Barry for first win of the season.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.- Artisha Holston recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 56-51 victory over Barry University in the Shark Holiday Classic. ASU gains its first victory of the year and are now 1-6 overall. Barry drops to 7-3.

In the low-scoring duel, Barry led for most of the half. The torrid outside shooting of Keidra Green and Holston's tough play inside kept the Lady Rams close. A three-pointer by Green with four seconds left in the first half cut Albany State's halftime deficit to 26-25.

In the second stanza at the 17:20 mark, the Lady Rams took the lead for good, 27-26, on a jump shot by Ieshia Young. A three-point play by Holston with 8:25 remaining in the contest provided Albany State with a double digit lead at 46-35. Kyasha Wilson's layup with 6:23 left gave ASU a 50-38 lead.

The Lady Buccaneers made a run and cut the lead to 54-51 with 57 seconds left in the game. However, Mecca Frost made a layup with the shot clock running down to give the Lady Rams a 56-51 advantage with 27 seconds left.

Green finished the game with 13 points and four rebounds. Young and Wilson each added eight points.

The Lady Rams shot 23 of 54 (42.6) from the field, three of 10 (30.0) from three-point range, and seven of 14 (50.0) from the free throw line. They forced Barry into 19 turnovers and recorded a season-high 14 steals.

Albany State returns to action on Saturday, January 3rd when they open SIAC play against Kentucky State University at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
