Albany, GA- Davetom Odom scored a team-high 19 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams lost to the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians 78-69. With the loss, ASU has dropped five straight games and falls to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the SIAC. LOC improves to 7-7, 4-2.
Albany State trailed for most of the first half before making a run. After closing the gap several times, the Golden Rams took a 36-31 lead with 2:12 left in the half. A five-point spurt by LeMoyne-Owen tied the score at 36 with 1:42 remaining in the stanza.
Elijah Jordan put ASU ahead 38-36 with a jumper at the 1:10 mark. LOC answered with a basket of its own to tie the score once again. A three-pointer by Larry Bullock gave the Golden Rams a 41-38 edge at intermission.
In the second half, Albany State was able to take a six-point advantage on two separate occasions. However, trailing 60-59, LeMoyne-Owen took advantage of ASU late turnovers and cold shooting to take control of the game down the stretch.
Bullock added another 12 points for Albany State.
The Golden Rams shot 27 of 67 (40.3%) from the field, eight of 24 (33.3%) from three-point range, and seven of 10 (70%) from the free throw line. The team recorded 12 steals, but committed 18 turnovers.
Albany State returns to action when on January 17th when it hosts Miles College at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
