Golden Rams end losing skid with win over Miles

Albany, GA- Senior guard Darshtyn Baker scored all 13 points of in the second half to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 59-55 victory over the Mile College Golden Bears. With the win, ASU ends a five-game losing streak and improves to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the SIAC. Miles drops to 1-13, 0-7.
 
In the low-scoring affair, Albany State fell behind fell behind 6-0 in the opening minutes. The Golden Rams answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead at the 13:02 mark. A three-pointer by Larry Bullock with 2:20 remaining in the half provided ASU with a 32-23 advantage. Albany State led 32-27 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Albany State built another nine-point lead, 36-27, at the 18:55 mark. The Golden Bears rallied and reclaimed the lead at 47-46 with 7:52 left in the game. ASU used a 6-0 run to take a 53-47 lead and remain out in front for the rest of the contest.
 
Bullock scored 10 points to join Baker in double figures. Earl Farnum had nine points and nine rebounds, and Davetom Odom added nine points and four steals. Demetri Wheeler led the team with 14 rebounds and chipped in with seven points.
 
The Golden Rams shot 20-of-62 (32.2%) from the field, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range, and 13-16 (81.3%) from the free throw line. The team also recorded 12 steals and forced Miles into 26 turnovers.
 
Albany State returns to action on Thursday, January 22nd when it travels to Columbia, South Carolina to face the Benedict College Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
