Lady Rams thrash Fort Valley State on its homecoming

Artisha Holston and Kourtney Alexander combined for 37 points against Fort Valley State.
Box Score FORT VALLEY, GEORGIA- Freshman forward Artisha Holston scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams past arch-rival Fort Valley State 76-60. With the win, ASU improves to13-4 overall, 8-2 in the SIAC and move into a first place tie with Benedict College for the top spot in the SIAC East Division. FVSU falls to 10-10, 7-3.

After an early 4-4 tie in the first half, Albany State quickly took command of the game. In front of a huge Fort Valley State crowd, the Lady Rams were anything but intimidated. Solid defense, crisp passing and hot shooting helped ASU build a whopping 41-21 lead at intermission. Holston's 12 points in the first half led the way.

In the second half, the Lady Rams continued to dominate their hosts. A pair of free throw by Holston provide Albany State with its biggest lead, 68-42, of the contest.

Kourtney Alexander netter 17 points, including three three-pointers. Keidra Green added another 15 points. Point guard Mecca Frost recorded seven assists.

The Lady Rams shot 25-50 (50.0%) from the field, 4-8 (50%) from three-point range and 22-27 (81.5%) from the free throw line. They outrebounded the Lady Wildcats 44-33 and held them to 33.8% shooting for the game.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Thursday, February 6th when the travel to Columbia, South Carolina to face the Benedict College Lady Tigers, which will be a battle for first place in the SIAC East Division. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
