Fort Lauderdale, Fla.- Artisha Holston scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, but the Albany State lady Rams fell to 0-6 on the season with a 56-47 loss to Nova Southeastern University. The two teams battled on the first day of the Shark Holiday Classic. Nova, the team that eliminated ASU from the NCAA tournament last season, improves to 7-2.
Albany State started the contest hot and built an early lead. The Lady Rams led 16-7 at the 12:30 mark of the first half. ASU held a 18-9 advantage before the Lady Shark used a 14-5 run to tie the score at 23 with 3:49 left in the half. The Lady Rams trailed 30-27 at intermission.
In the second half, the Lady Rams remained close and was able to tie the score on several occasions. A basket by Holston brought Albany State within one, 46-45, with 3:40 left in the game. However, ASU went cold from the field, and Nova was able to slightly pull away.
Keidra Green added 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals for Lady Rams.
Albany State will return to action on today when it faces Barry University on the final day of the Shark Holiday Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
