Golden Rams fall to Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, ALABAMA- Senior forward Jamorris Gaines recorded a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams lost to the Tuskegee University Tigers, 89-82. With the loss, ASU falls to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in SIAC play. Tuskegee improves to 5-6, 2-0.

Cold shooting in the first half put the Golden Rams behind early. Albany couldn't find the basket and trailed by double figures. ASU trailed 37-21 with 4:01 left in the first half. Baskets by Gaines and Justin Udi cut the Golden Rams' deficit to 37-25 at intermission.

In the second half, Gaines hit a three-pointer to cut the team's deficit to 46-40 with 17:14 left in regulation. Tuskegee was able to withstand the ASU run and increased its lead to its largest of the game, 71-54.

Albany State made one final push towards victory. Joe Williams made a basket and Gaines converted a three-point play to make the score 85-78 with 1:23 left to play. After a Tiger free throw, a four-point play by Larry Bullock brought the Golden Rams within four, 86-82, with 1:07 left in regulation. However, ASU could not get any closer.

Williams finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds. Bullock added 13 points and four steals.

The Golden Rams shot 25-52 (48.%), 6-14 (42.9%) from three-point range, and 26-30 (86.7%) from the free throw line. The team recorded 12 steals and forced Tuskegee into 24 turnovers.

The Albany State Golden Rams return to action on Thursday, January 9th when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Stillman College Tigers. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. (central time).
