Lady Rams fall to Paine in OT thriller
 
AUGUSTA, GA- Sophomore guard April Thomas scored a career-high 37 points and made eight three-pointers, but the Albany State Lady Rams fell to the Paine College Lady Lions 89-84 in overtime.  With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 8-13 overall, 6-7 in the SIAC.  Paine improves to 10-13, 8-5.
           
Albany State came out of the gates on fire from three-point range.  Led by Thomas’ torrid shooting, the Lady Rams were able to take an early 27-9 lead in the first half.  However, Paine, in front of its’ large homecoming crowd, was able to make a run.  When halftime arrived, the Lady Rams still held a 38-29 advantage.
 
In the second half, the Lady Lions were able to tie the score and the two teams battled back and forth for the rest of the second half.  As expected, the second half came down to the proverbial wire.  Trailing 79-77, Kedeemya Cooper made a three-pointer to put the Lady Rams ahead 80-79 with 26 seconds remaining in regulation.  However, a foul by Albany State allowed Paine’s Kiara Farley to go to the free throw line where she made one of two gratis tosses to tie the score at 80 with 24 seconds left.  Thomas’ was able to get off a shot for ASU before the buzzer, but it fell short and the game went into overtime.  Paine outscored the Lady Rams 9-4 in the extra session to pull out the victory.
 
Junior guard Kourtney Alexander and Cooper added 12 points apiece to join Thomas in double figures.  Cooper also pulled down seven rebounds.  Ashley Watts scored a team-high 35 points for Paine College.
