Lady Rams beat host GSW in PBC-SIAC Challenge

AMERICUS, GEORGIA- Sophomore Keidra Green and freshman Artisha Holston each recorded double doubles to lead the Albany State Lady Rams past the Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes 73-61 in the Peach Belt-SIAC Challenge. With the victory, ASU improves to 3-1 on the year. GSW falls to 3-2.

Green netted a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Holston added 12 points and pulled down 16 caroms.

The Lady Rams used a key run in the first half to seize control of the game. With the score tied at 14, ASU went on a 15-0 run to take a 29-14 lead. Albany State held its biggest lead of the game at 38-22 with 39 seconds left in the half.

The Lady Rams held a 38-24 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Hurricanes were able to cut their deficit to five, 60-55 with 4:20 remaining in the game. However, a 6-0 run by Albany State pushed the lead back to 11, 66-55 with 2:52 left.

The Lady Rams hit timely baskets and free throws down the stretch to put the game out of contention for GSW.

Kourtney Alexander added 12 points and Amber McKenzie had another 11 points to join Green and Holston in double digits. Mecca Frost had seven assists.

The Lady Rams return to actions on Sunday, December 1st on the second and final day of the Peach Belt-SIAC Challenge at GSW. ASU will face unbeaten Columbus State University at 2 p.m.
