Christopher Cameron

Christopher J. Cameron is in his 8th season as head coach of the Golden Rams after serving five years as an assistant coach. Considered a master of the game, Cameron is among the best in building championship-caliber teams.

In his first season as head coach, Cameron led the 2006-2007 Golden Rams to their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men's Basketball tournament championship since 1997.

During the 2007 SIAC Tournament, Cameron led his team on a four-game winning streak to capture Albany State's seventh SIAC Tournament title. He was named the 2007 SIAC Tournament Coach of the Year. He led the Golden Rams to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1998. His career record is 54-60.

An Albany native, Cameron came to Albany State in 2001 to help resurrect and guide the Golden Rams' program. He was named assistant head coach in 2003. Cameron has been a basketball fixture in the Southwest Georgia area since his playing days at Dougherty Comprehensive High School. Cameron's recruiting and instilled work ethic during practices and games were instrumental in the Golden Rams' rebuilding process.

Cameron lettered four years as a Green Wave at Tulane University. Considered one of the most exciting players ever to wear a Green Wave Jersey, Cameron was known for his spectacular dunks and stingy defense. He earned several awards, including the team's 1997 Defensive Player of the Year award and was a two-time member of the All-Defensive Team Conference USA, and finished seventh all-time in steals at Tulane.

During his collegiate career, the Green Waves were ranked nationally and went to postseason championships each year, including an NCAA bid in 1995 and three NIT appearances. In 1996, Tulane advanced to the NIT Final Four, where Cameron led his team to victory with 22 points. At the completion of his senior season, Cameron was invited to participate in the NCAA National Slam-Dunk Contest and finished third.

Cameron enjoyed a four-year professional basketball career that landed him in Iceland, Finland, Mexico and San Diego for the Stingrays of the International Basketball League (IBL).

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Tulane in 1997, and his master’s degree from Albany State in 2009. He is a member of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) and the Black Coaches Association (BCA).

Cameron and his wife, Reeshemah, are the parents of three daughters: Saadiyah Sanay, and twins, Saa'nala and Saa'nyla. He is the son of Brenda Cameron of Albany and Arthur Cameron of LaGrange. Ga.
