The 2020-2021 season will mark Adrian White’s second year as Assistant Coach for the Albany State University Men’s Basketball program.
White is involved in every aspect of the Golden Rams’ program including recruiting, player development, and on-court teaching. He is also responsible for offensive and defensive scouting and strategy, in-game play calling, academic mentoring, travel preparations, administrative duties as well as overseeing the student assistants.
In his first season at Albany State (2019-2020) he helped the men’s basketball program make huge improvements. The Golden Rams claimed the Eastern Division Title. Albany State earned the top overall seed in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament losing to Miles College in the championship game. Under White’s mentorship, Randy McClure received All-American and All-Conference accolades for the year.
White came to Albany, Ga. from Miami, Fla., where he coached at St. Thomas University (NAIA DII). His most recent position was the Interim Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball program.
White served two years as an assistant coach, one as a volunteer, before taking over as Interim Head Coach. White was responsible for offensive scouting and strategy, in-game play calling, player development, recruiting, academic mentoring, travel preparations and administrative duties.
During his three years at St. Thomas, two working alongside current Albany State Head Coach Patrick Gayle, the Bobcats achieved an overall record of 54-30, 37-15 record in the Sun Conference. The Bobcats were nationally ranked each of the three years. Winning the Sun Conference regular-season championship and reaching the sweet sixteen of the NAIA DII National Tournament.
Serving as Interim Head Coach in 2018-19, Coach White lead St. Thomas to a regular-season conference record of 10-8, including a win against top 25 team Warner University. Their season ended with a loss in the conference tournament quarterfinals. White coached eventual All-American Justin Brown as well as Philip Saunders to all-conference honors and five Sun Conference and Daktronics NAIA scholar-athletes. The team also achieved a team GPA of 3.09 for the year, which was the highest GPA for the program in White’s time at St. Thomas.
In 2017-18, Coach White was promoted to Associate Head Coach. White helped lead St. Thomas to a record of 23-8 overall, 16-2 in the Sun Conference, winning the conference regular-season title. The Bobcats finished the season ranked 8th in the country. The Bobcats advanced to the sweet sixteen of the NAIA DII National Tournament; finishing top ten in the country. Taking over the responsibility of the offensive game planning, implementing offensive sets, play calling, and player development, White assisted in the Bobcats’ increase in offensive production and efficiency. The Bobcats finished the 2017-18 campaign with a ranking of 5th in Field Goal percentage after timeouts, 13th in overall field goal percentage, 16th in assists per game, also top 25 rankings in three-point percentage and total assists. White assisted in the growth and development of NAIA all-American Raheem Bowman, as well as Tim Sada and Darwin Trotman, receiving all-conference honors. White also continued to help in the development of Mikon Hewitt, who won back-to-back Defensive Player of The Year honors.
In 2016-17, White began his coaching career as a Volunteer Assistant Coach and helped St. Thomas to a record of 20-9 overall, 11-5 in the Sun Conference. Spending multiple weeks in the top 25 rankings, the Bobcats earned a number four ranking in the country securing wins against NCAA DII Nova Southeastern (2) and eventual NAIA National Champions, Union College. White assisted in scouting, film breakdown, and student-athlete development and guidance including All Americans Michael Walker II and Raheem Bowman as well as Armond Shoon and Kristers Zeidaks, who received All-Conference honors. Under White’s coaching, Mikon Hewitt who was second in the nation in steals per game, 5th in total steals, and 6th overall in assists per game, was named Defensive Player of The Year in the Sun Conference.
White played his collegiate basketball at Florida Memorial University, an NAIA school located in Miami Gardens Fla., under Coach Kenny Bellinger. He served as a two-year captain and starter.
A graduate of Hollywood Hills High School in Hollywood Fla., White earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications-Public Relations in 2013 from Florida Memorial University. Born in Avon Park, Fla., He has five younger siblings Arthur (brother), Marcel (brother), Deontay (brother), A’ryn (sister), and Kimora (sister).
