ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State University freshman Amiria Anderson has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Newcomer of the Week following a strong showing at the SIAC Crossover.
Anderson was a consistent offensive threat throughout the weekend, totaling 47 kills across four matches as the Golden Rams posted a 3-1 record with victories over Tuskegee, Kentucky State and Central State.
The freshman opened the Crossover with her biggest performance of the weekend against Tuskegee. Anderson recorded a match-high 22 kills while hitting .300, helping Albany State outlast the Golden Tigers in a five-set battle, 3-2.
Anderson continued her strong play later Friday against Kentucky State, leading the Golden Rams with 10 kills as Albany State rolled to a 3-0 sweep. The two victories gave the Golden Rams a 2-0 start to conference play.
On the final day of the Crossover, Anderson added eight kills in a 3-0 victory over Central State before finishing with seven kills and eight digs against Spring Hill. Her 47 kills over the weekend were the most by a Golden Ram during the four-match Crossover.
The honor recognizes Anderson's strong start to her freshman campaign as she continues to establish herself as one of Albany State's key offensive options.
Albany State will return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, for its official home opener against Benedict College. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex.
