ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's cross country team returns to action Friday evening as the Golden Rams travel to Gainesville, Georgia, to compete in the UNG Invitational.
The women's race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the UNG Cross Country Course, where Albany State will compete against a field of 17 teams.
"This week gives us another opportunity to measure our progress against quality competition," head coach Robert Smith said. "We will be competing against 17 teams and majority of them are in the top tier of the South Region. We've planned our work for the week, meet day we will work our plan. Same mission, same goal, SET THE PACE."
Albany State enters the meet with momentum following a strong showing at last week's home meet. Brea Vann led the way for the Golden Rams, finishing third overall with a time of 19:49.60. Her performance also earned her SIAC Women's Runner of the Week honors.
Faith Thompson added another top-10 finish for Albany State, placing ninth overall with a time of 20:35.80. The sophomore's performance helped give the Golden Rams two runners inside the top 10 as Albany State finished second in the team standings behind NCAA Division I Florida A&M.
Vann and Thompson will look to carry that momentum into Gainesville as the Golden Rams test themselves against a deep field featuring several programs from across the South Region.
The Golden Rams will use the competition as another opportunity to measure their progress as they continue working toward their goal of defending their back-to-back SIAC championships and pursuing a third consecutive conference title.
