Watts Garners SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week Honor

ATLANTA, Ga. – After two tough weeks, the Golden Rams started off Conference play in dominating fashion. Albany State's Cameron Watts was a big part of the Saturday night resurgence and garnered Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors from his efforts.

Leading 14-0 starting the second half, the ASU defense held Savannah State to three plays and a punt. On the punt, Watts returned it up the right side 41 yards to the home 25-yard line. The Ram offense found the endzone three plays later and kept the game momentum.

The senior cornerback snatched the first Tiger pass from the air of the fourth quarter for a 34-yard interception touchdown to make it 35-0 for the eventual 49-17 final winning score.

Watts from Tyrone, Ga., registered two solo stops and three total tackles with one for a loss of two yards. He added the key interception touchdown. The return specialist returned three punts for 71 yards, including the 41-yarder, and a kickoff for 15 yards for 86 total return yards on four tries.

For the first three games, Watts has eight solo and 11 total tackles with the one tackle for loss and interception. He has returned five puns for 72 yards and a 14.4-yard average and six kick offs for 96 yards.

Watts and the Golden Rams (1-2/1-0 SIAC) return to action this Saturday afternoon. ASU travels east again where it will battle Allen University in Columbia, S.C., in a 4 p.m. start.
