Jacksonville, Fla. - The Albany State men's basketball team delivered one of its most memorable performances of the season Saturday night, storming back from a 16-point halftime deficit to secure a dramatic 67–66 victory over Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida.
Trailing 41–25 at the break, the Golden Rams regrouped, refocused, and put together a second-half performance defined by poise, toughness, and belief. Albany State flipped the game after halftime, outscoring the Tigers 42–25 over the final 20 minutes while shooting an impressive 56 percent from the floor in the second half.
The comeback was fueled by a sensational outing from
Shakur Poteat, who put together a dominant all-around performance. The junior guard poured in a game-high 34 points, shooting 12-of-19 from the field, knocking down 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and converting 6-of-7 at the free-throw line. Poteat delivered bucket after bucket when the Golden Rams needed them most, consistently answering the moment and lifting his teammates with his confidence.
Albany State also received timely contributions across the lineup.
Cameron Evans added nine points, hitting clutch perimeter shots and battling on the glass, while
Kendale Johnson finished with eight points and four assists, including the game-winning layup with seven seconds remaining that sealed the comeback. Khamani Hopkinson chipped in nine points and five rebounds, providing a steady interior presence during the rally.
Defense and effort proved just as critical as scoring. The Golden Rams won the battle on the boards with 31 rebounds, forced key stops late, and stayed composed at the free-throw line, shooting 85.7 percent from the stripe. That discipline paid off in the closing moments of a game that featured multiple lead changes and high tension down the stretch.
Albany State's resilience was on full display, turning an uphill road challenge into a statement win through execution, energy, and trust in one another. The victory showcased the Golden Rams' ability to respond to adversity and finish strong in hostile environments.
With momentum on their side, the Golden Rams will return home for a midweek conference matchup against Miles College inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex, looking to carry that same fight and togetherness in front of the home crowd.
