Golden Rams Show Grit in Season-Opening Doubleheader at ABAC

Tifton, Ga. — The Albany State softball team officially opened the 2026 season with a road doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, flashing promising moments of resilience, timely hitting, and competitive growth despite dropping both contests.

In the opener, the Lady Golden Rams battled through early adversity while finding bright spots at the plate. Kaylah Howard set the tone with a single, while Amari Mapps delivered the team's extra-base highlight with a double. Abbigale Jones also chipped in a hit as Albany State collected three total hits against a strong ABAC pitching staff. In the circle, Savannah Barr and Mary Scott Hulsey combined efforts, with Hulsey closing the game by striking out two and limiting damage late, showing composure in her season debut.

Game two showcased the competitive identity of the Golden Rams and featured one of the most exciting moments of the young season. Albany State responded after falling behind early, clawing back behind steady offensive execution and disciplined at-bats. Arianah McKenzie and Aniyah Dixon each drove in runs, while Abbigale Jones sparked the offense with a two-hit performance that included a double and two runs scored. Avery Fisher added a hit and reached base twice, continuing Albany State's momentum throughout the game.

One of the biggest highlights occurred during the seventh inning when Tranasia Parker launched a clutch solo home run to give Albany State a late lead. The blast marked Parker's first home run of the season and capped a poised offensive effort that reflected the team's fight and confidence. In the circle, McKenzie Fitch delivered a strong start, working six innings and keeping the Golden Rams within striking distance throughout, while Tamia Pierce closed out the game with efficiency.

Up next, Albany State will remain on the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Talladega College on February 10 in Talladega, Alabama, as the Golden Rams continue building momentum early in the season.
