WILBERFORCE, Ohio — The Albany State University women's volleyball team opened the SIAC Crossover with a pair of victories Thursday, defeating Miles College 3-1 before sweeping Lane College 3-0 at Beacom/Lewis Gym.
The Golden Rams improved to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in SIAC play following the two victories.
Game 1: Albany State 3, Miles 1
Albany State opened the day against Miles with a four-set victory, 25-19, 26-28, 25-16, 25-18. After splitting the first two sets, the Golden Rams responded by taking the final two sets to secure the conference victory. Albany State finished with 56 kills and a .262 hitting percentage.
Jarianis Perez led the Golden Rams with 19 kills while hitting .277 and adding 10 digs and two service aces. Amiria Anderson added 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage with eight digs, while Shaniya Banks recorded seven kills and hit .500. Serenity Jackson also finished with seven kills while hitting .462. Liannette Burgos directed the offense with a team-high 23 assists.
Game 2: Albany State 3, Lane 0
The Golden Rams carried their momentum into the second match, sweeping Lane 25-22, 25-14, 25-13. After a competitive opening set, Albany State took control over the final two frames to complete the straight-set victory.
Perez once again led the offense, recording 13 kills without an attack error and hitting .464. Banks finished with six kills on nine attempts for a .667 hitting percentage, while Anderson added five kills and hit .500. Trinity Britt contributed three kills, nine assists and three service aces, while Burgos added 10 assists.
Albany State finished the match hitting .298 while holding Lane to a .075 hitting percentage. The Golden Rams also recorded eight service aces in the victory.
