Anderson Big Plays Earns SIAC Football Newcomer of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – Making the plays for the 'Homecoming' crowd, the Golden Ram linebacker made his mark last Saturday. Albany State's Caleb Anderson made a pair of big plays directly resulting in touchdowns and earned the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Newcomer of the Week honors.

The junior Golden Ram linebacker did not waste time as he blocked the Dragons of Lane College's second punt on the third possession of the game in the end zone and his teammate, Ryder Flynn, recovered the ball for the home touchdown. Then, with 9:19 left in the second quarter, Anderson sacked the Lane quarterback and forced a fumble in the process, which Evan Wynn scooped up and ran 64 yards for another ASU touchdown.

For the game, the Thomasville, Ga., native totaled three tackles, one for a loss, a sack, the forced fumble and the blocked punt. The first-year Ram also stopped the Lane punter from booting another punt after a bad snap where Joseph Hasan made the 13-yard loss and turnover on downs.

Anderson and the ASU defense held Lane to 89 yards of total offense and -19 yards rushing in the 51-0 Homecoming victory.

Over the team's six contests, Anderson has 10 tackles and forced two fumbles.

ASU heads back on the road this Saturday, Oct. 17, in a key SIAC matchup at Tuskegee University. Kick off is set for 2 p.m. CST/3 p.m. EST.
