Fairfield, Ala. —The Albany State women's basketball team started strong, but a late surge from Miles College was too much to overcome, resulting in a 96-62 loss at Pearson Gymnasium.
Albany State (9-4, 8-4 SIAC) opened the game with confidence, jumping out to an early 7–2 lead behind aggressive defense and quick ball movement. That early energy, however, was quickly met by a sustained Miles run as the Lady Bears found their rhythm on both ends of the floor.
Miles responded with a decisive push late in the first quarter, capitalizing on a few missed cues by Albany State to build momentum. The Lady Rams trailed by as many as 15 points in the opening period and headed into the second quarter down 26–14.
Looking to regroup, Albany State opened the second quarter with a 4–0 run, showing resilience and determination. The Lady Rams chipped away at the deficit, briefly pulling within single digits as they worked to regain control of the tempo. Despite the effort, Miles continued to apply pressure offensively, stretching the lead to 50–30 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Albany State showed renewed fight. The Lady Rams put together their best offensive quarter of the night in the third, scoring 21 points and attacking the paint with purpose.
Sariah Johnson provided a strong presence inside, while
Jada Morgan helped spark the offense with timely buckets as ASU tried to close the gap.
Morgan led Albany State with 13 points, adding six rebounds and two assists. Johnson followed with 11 points and eight rebounds, while
Na'Haviya Paxton contributed eight points. The Lady Rams finished with 38 points in the paint and won the rebounding battle 46–28, but struggled from the field, shooting 31.2 percent overall.
